Kindergarten Round-Up

8 Dec

I’ve come to realize that I don’t do well with infinite choices. I can’t stand restaurants with huge, long menus. Picking paint colors for the house has always given me anxiety. And I would never be able to handle satellite TV – way too many channels!! I don’t think I’m bad at making decisions; I just like things to be narrowed down for me.

Knowing this about myself, I realize that I may be in some trouble here with my oldest daughter heading to kindergarten next year. All of a sudden I’m responsible for choosing a school from a very large inventory – a situation I was not entirely prepared for. Continue reading

For the past ten days I have been posting strategies for building stronger and healthier relationship and communication skills between boys and girls. Classroom Environment (Solutions 5 and 6)

24 Oct

We’ve hit the halfway mark on the top-ten list! When I started thinking about writing-up this next solution, it made some sense to me to combine it with another. Both have to do with the classroom and the classroom environment. I know many of you aren’t teachers, but as parents involved in your child’s school, I think much of the following may be of interest. So today’s post is a two for one…..Solution 5: Adjust Physical Environment & Solution 6: Creating a Sense of Community. Continue reading

Happy Ask a Stupid Question Day!

28 Sep

It’s Ask a Stupid Question Day! Really. You can Google it, but I should forewarn you that there is a lack of agreement on the actual date for celebration (seems fitting, right?) Some sources claim that it’s September 28th, others September 30th and still more state that it’s the last school day in the month of September. And while believing something to be true just because you were able to read about it on the internet may be considered a “stupid assumption,” we are not celebrating assumptions today. It’s all about the question. Continue reading

I Love Teachers!

9 Sep

I LOVE teachers! I loved being a teacher, I love working with teachers, and I love the teachers that my own kids have and love. I do hope the feeling is mutual. What parent doesn’t want the teacher to love their own kid? But that is one of the greatest things about a great teacher – you always believe your child is loved.

Last night my two and a half year old had her Back to School class party. Gracie was covered in equal parts paint, popsicle and pasta sauce.  Miss Cindy looks from Gracie to my husband and me and says, “She likes to party hard!” Sporting her enhanced dress, crazy hair and dark circles under her eyes, Gracie really was a sight to behold. Racing around the room with reckless abandon, this wild child had one fabulous night. I just know it’s going to be a fantastic school year!

Thumbs Up Target! Gracie 20 months

I love my Target store! I do. It’s love. My Target has a Starbucks inside – can you blame me?! (And I do refer to it as being mine as if I have something to do with ownership, which I clearly do not). I feel so strongly about my Target that I pretty much have no use for any other in the area. I am fully aware that the products and layout are virtually identical, but I’ll admit it, I think mine is better. This is not rational, I know that, but it’s true. I really love mine, and I’m not going to be so crazy about yours…
